A homestead where West Virginia youth belong and grow
Home’stead welcomes young people ages 16–24 who are aging out of foster care or facing homelessness. On our working homestead, residents find a safe home, learn life skills and job readiness, and build supportive relationships that last long after graduation.
Our Impact
Home
A safe, stable place to live with shared meals, clear expectations, and dignity—so every resident knows they belong.
Life Skills
Daily hands‑on learning in cooking, gardening, budgeting, health, and job readiness builds confidence for independent living.
Mentorship
Caring adults walk beside each youth with encouragement, accountability, and a plan for school, work, and life.
How It Works
1) Welcome & Stabilize
Apply or be referred. Move into a safe room with shared meals, clear house expectations, and immediate support.
2) Learn & Work
Join daily homestead work and classes—gardening, cooking, budgeting, and job readiness—to build skills and healthy routines.
3) Plan & Grow
Set goals with a mentor: finish school, earn certifications, secure employment, and strengthen health and relationships.
4) Launch & Aftercare
Transition to independent housing with ongoing mentorship, alumni check‑ins, and a community that stays family.
You Can Change a Life
Your gift meets urgent needs and builds long‑term strength. Donations keep bedrooms warm, the pantry stocked, and vans fueled for school and work. They also fund life‑skills classes, counseling, and paid training on our small farm. We’re building a self‑sustaining program that will cover 25–35% of costs through farm and community enterprises within three years—your support gets us there faster. Every dollar directly supports youth ages 16–24 moving from uncertainty to stability. Donate.
Be Part of Our Family
Change here grows from community. Whether you’re a neighbor, employer, educator, or partner, there’s a place for you at Home’stead—volunteer, mentor, hire, or share your skills. Let’s build a family that lasts. Have an idea or question? Contact us and say hello.
